Washington Sundar is no stranger to making a statement when it matters most. Known for his tidy off-spin and calm presence under pressure, the young all-rounder has played pivotal roles for India in international cricket and in previous IPL seasons.
Yet, despite his credentials, he surprisingly warmed the bench during Gujarat Titans’ earlier clash against Punjab Kings, a move that didn’t go unnoticed.

In fact, Google CEO Sundar Pichai himself had supported a viral tweet questioning why Washington Sundar wasn’t in GT’s playing XI that night, showing how the cricketer’s absence had even caught the attention of the tech world’s elite.
Fast forward to GT’s face-off against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sundar’s former team, and the 25-year-old all-rounder finally got his chance and boy, did he grab it. In his very first appearance for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, Washington Sundar smashed a crucial 49 off just 29 balls, helping his new team chase down SRH’s target of 153 with grit and style.
Social media lit up after his match-winning performance, but it was Gujarat Titans’ cheeky reply that stole the show. The franchise quoted Sundar Pichai’s older post that had lauded Sundar’s talent, responding with a clever nod: “Sundar came. Sundar conquered.”
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans are on top of the points table. They played five games so far and won four and lost just once. GT collected eight points and have a Net Run Rate of +1.413.
