Kapil Sharma, known for his wit and humor, found himself in hot water during the grand finale of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The host took a subtle dig at director-producer Atlee Kumar’s appearance, a remark that didn’t go well with many, especially fans from Tamil Nadu.
Atlee, who was present alongside the star cast of Baby John including Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, responded with a thoughtful and dignified reply.
During the show, Kapil playfully asked Atlee, who recently tasted massive success with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, if stars meeting him for the first time often question, “Where is Atlee?” The question, aimed at poking fun at the filmmaker’s appearance, drew laughter from the audience but quickly sparked a wave of criticism online.
Many viewers expressed their disappointment, calling out Kapil for relying on body-shaming humor. One user wrote, “Why does Kapil Sharma always resort to body-shaming jokes?” Another praised Atlee for his composed response, saying, “Atlee handled it like a true gentleman.”

The popular director, known for his blockbuster hits such as Raja Rani, Bigil, Theri, Mersal and Jawan, didn’t let the remark ruffle his feathers. Instead, he turned the moment into an opportunity to share an inspiring message. He said:
“In a way, I understood your question. I’ll try to answer. I’m actually very thankful to AR Murugadoss sir because he produced my first film. He asked for a script, but he didn’t see how I looked or whether I was capable of it or not. He loved my narration. I think the world should see that. We should not judge by appearance. You have to judge by your heart.”
Atlee’s response won widespread praise from fans and social media users, many of whom admired his grace under pressure. “Atlee just proved why he’s not only a great director but also a great human being,” commented a fan.
