In today’s time, where new startups and entrepreneurship stories are inspiring, this story of two sisters is also commendable. In this journey starting from a small cloud kitchen, using grandmother’s old recipes, these sisters took their business to a point where today their income is more than Rs 10 crore.
Two sisters Ramya and Shweta Ravi in Bengaluru have set up a successful business named RNR Donne Biryani in memory of their grandmother. Their journey started in 2020, they aimed to make their grandmother’s special recipe Donne Biryani famous all over the city.
Donne Biryani is served in a leaf bowl. It stands out from other biryanis for its green color. There is also a difference in the rice used in its preparation. There is short-grain rice used in it. Donne Biryani is only available in Bengaluru, but the sisters have always wondered why it is not more popular. Their goal was to make Biryani popular throughout the city.
The sisters started with a 200 sq ft cloud kitchen with a capital of Rs 5 lakh. Initially, they hired only 1 chef and 2 assistants. Today, the brand has expanded to 14 cloud kitchens and a stand-alone restaurant in Bengaluru. The recipe is their grandmother’s gift, but RNR Biryani is named after their grandfather and father Ramaswamy and Ravichander. The sisters always wanted to do something related to food.
The lockdown gave them enough time to brainstorm on their idea. They saw potential in their idea. The Donne Biryani sector was unorganized. This is where they saw a business opportunity. The venture, which started with Rs 5 lakh, has achieved a revenue of Rs 10 crore since its foundation.
RNR Donne Biryani’s Drumstick Chilli Starter and Chicken Ghee Roast along with Biryani are also very popular among customers. By starting a small cloud kitchen with grandmother’s old recipes, today these two sisters have become an inspiration for millions of people.
