Priyanka Chopra has finally shared the real reason she decided to take her career to Hollywood, revealing a side of her journey that wasn’t known before. Already a superstar in Bollywood, Priyanka’s move wasn’t just about chasing new dreams, it was about finding an escape from struggles back home.
In a candid chat on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast, Priyanka opened up about her Hollywood journey, saying it all started when Anjula Acharia from Desi Hits spotted her in a music video.
At the time, Priyanka was filming Saat Khoon Maaf in India when Anjula reached out, curious if Priyanka would consider a career in music in the U.S. The timing couldn’t have been better because Priyanka was looking for a way out of Bollywood.
According to Priyanka, she felt boxed in within the Bollywood industry. “I was being pushed into a corner,” she shared, adding that certain people in the industry weren’t casting her, and she felt like she had “beef” with others.
Priyanka admits she wasn’t cut out for the politics and networking often required to stay on top. Exhausted by the constant maneuvering, she was ready for a break. The music opportunity offered her a fresh start—one where she wouldn’t have to hustle for roles or be part of exclusive circles.
“I thought, ‘You know what, I’m going to America,’” Priyanka said, embracing the new chapter with excitement. She got to collaborate with big names like Pitbull, Will.I.Am, and even met Jay-Z. But after a while, Priyanka realized that her true passion was acting, and music wasn’t giving her the same satisfaction. Hollywood, however, turned out to be an open door for her acting career, and she decided to give it her all.
Now, Priyanka has established herself as a global icon, proving that sometimes a leap of faith is exactly what it takes to find your true calling.
