What is Bahraich matter? Let’s understand the whole controversy

Following the recent disputes, the situation in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh has descended into violence. A complaint of violence and conflicts in the neighborhood has been made after the occurrence, which incited communal disagreements. Concerns over the event have not only grown among the locals but the administration and police are facing a significant obstacle as well.

Reportedly, at the Bahraich immersion of the Durga Idol, there was a clash that resulted in one person’s death. An argument about music being played on loudspeakers during the immersion procession sparked the incident. Allegedly, objectionable pop songs were played on loudspeakers and some people were seen removing green flags and hoisting saffron flags.

Stones were pelted from houses in the Muslim-dominated area, and Protesting mobs set vehicles and shops on fire and blocked roads demanding justice for Gopal Mishra. Political controversy also resulted from the rioting, as the Samajwadi Party (SP) claimed that the state administration had lost control of law and order. Along with detaining thirty individuals, including the primary accused, police also filed charges against ten others.

The man who died in the procession clash was married about four months ago and his family has demanded that a case be registered against those responsible and senior officials of the local police station be suspended.

The government has tried to maintain peace. But the opposition party is blaming the administration. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said, “When the procession was being taken out, the administration should have ensured adequate security on the route. Also, it should have checked what was being played (on the loudspeaker). Was it insulting anyone? The entire responsibility was of the administration and its failure led to violence.”

Internet service was shut down in many areas of Bahraich. The government is trying to maintain peace. Local leaders and social organizations have also appealed for peace and restraint in this matter. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that those who spoil the atmosphere in Bahraich will not be spared.
