Woman fired for having affairs with CEO

Recently a controversial case has come to light in America, in which an Indian woman is reported to have been fired from her job. This step was taken by Norfolk Southern Corporation, the company said that CEO Alan Shaw and Indian-origin lawyer Nabanita C Nag have been dismissed. A relationship between Shaw and Nag had come to light, the relationship between the two was consensual but by doing so they have violated the company’s policies. This case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of high-level executives.

The corporation said in a statement that Shaw’s removal is not related to the company’s performance, financial reporting, and results of operations. Norfolk Southern said that after the board’s initial investigation, Nabanita C Nag was removed immediately from her roles as corporate affairs, chief legal officer, and corporate secretary. Jason M. Morris has been appointed in her place.

After removing Shaw from the post, Norfolk unanimously appointed Mark R George as the company’s executive vice president and chief executive officer. George will also join the Norfolk Southern board. After accepting the position, George said that he is honored to play this role and lead Norfolk Southern.

According to the report, Norfolk Southern Corporation launched an investigation after the relationship between Nabanita Nag and Alan Shaw came to light. The investigation found that the two had a relationship that violated company policies. The investigation found that Shaw had violated company policies by having a consensual relationship with the company’s chief legal officer.

Talking about Indian-origin Nag, she has described herself as an ‘experienced leader’ in her profile. Previously, she worked at Goldman Sachs. She earned a bachelor’s degree in government and English from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from New York University School of Law. Norfolk Southern first hired her in 2020 as General Counsel. In 2022, she was appointed Chief Legal Officer, and in 2023, she was appointed Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
