West Bengal: The painful and horrific incident in Kolkata has shaken the whole country. After the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old lady doctor, a wave of outrage has flooded the internet and social media. The public believes that the law and order in the state has completely collapsed, on this serious issue, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has the power, has failed to get justice for the victim’s family.
Netizens reacted and posted various statements against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Despite having the power, Mamata Banerjee failed to handle this situation. The power that she should have used to ensure justice is delivered as soon as constitutionally possible, she used only to protest on the road, only a conspiracy to mislead the public. The public believes that Mamata Banerjee should resign.
A statement given by Mamata Banerjee (in the 2012 rape case) went viral, after which the public has completely lost all faith in Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee says, ‘Rape cases are increasing because boys and girls now talk more openly.’ The public believes, ‘We should not expect justice from a Chief Minister with such thought process. If women leaders themselves speak like this then what do we expect from others.’
After seeing this statement by Mamata Banerjee, the public’s heated outrage increased, after which people said, ‘We don’t want to know why the rape happened, we only want justice. This is just a useless and condemnable statement. If this is the reason, then how are such incidents carried out with minor girls between 3-5 years?’
Kolkata Police has imposed Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023 (formerly Section 144 of CrPC) around the Medical College and Hospital for seven days from Sunday, August 18. Rallies, meetings, processions, dharnas, demonstrations, and unlawful assembly of five or more persons are prohibited in the area specified in this section. Even after the imposition of this section, various reactions came from the public. They believe that ‘This is all a conspiracy only to mislead the case.’
