Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs scored in both Test and ODI cricket. He has amassed 15,921 runs in 200 Test matches and 18,426 runs in 463 ODI matches. His record of 100 international centuries (51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs) is a monumental achievement that has yet to be surpassed.
The Little Master made his debut for the Indian national team at the tender age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989, beginning what would be a legendary 24-year international career. Over the years, Tendulkar became the cornerstone of the Indian cricket team and set numerous records that have contributed to his status as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.
It is worth noting that Tendulkar was the first player to score a double century in an ODI match, achieving this feat against South Africa in 2010. Overall, he has played in six ICC Cricket World Cups from 1992 to 2011 and was a key member of the Indian team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011.
His contribution to India’s World Cup campaigns, especially in 1996 and 2003 where India reached the semi-finals and finals respectively, was significant. He is the highest run-scorer in World Cup history.
The God of Cricket retired from international cricket in November 2013, after playing his 200th Test match against the West Indies at his home ground, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. His retirement was an emotional moment for cricket fans around the world.
Sachin Tendulkar reveals the toughest bowler he has ever faced
Meanwhile, the God of Cricket has faced several bowlers in his cricketing venture and he found it really tough to play against one bowler and he is none other than Pakistan legend Wasim Akram.
Sachin Tendulkar reserved the highest respect for Wasim Akram by saying, “A bowler of Akram’s calibre, who made the ball talk, lifts your game. His run-up was so natural, and unlike most fast bowlers, he did not need to measure his steps as he could just start from anywhere and was as effective. When I first played against him, I had never faced anyone like Wasim. He was special. We always maintained a warm friendship.”
