The Ayodhya Railway Station, a pivotal hub within the vast Indian Railways network, stands as a site of profound historical and cultural significance. Recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the station is poised to become a central gathering point for millions of devotees, both from within the country and beyond. This convergence is anticipated to mark the grand inauguration of the newly constructed temple on January 22. Let’s explore five key facts that underscore the uniqueness of this remarkable location.
The new name of Ayodhya Junction: Ayodhya’s railway junction in Uttar Pradesh, set to cater to numerous devotees nationwide, is now officially known as Ayodhya Dham Junction. The announcement of this renaming was made by local MP Lallu Singh on Wednesday, just in time for the inauguration of the Ram temple.
The largest concourse of Ayodhya Junction: Ayodhya Dham station will be 144 meters long, 44 meters wide, and 11.7 meters high. It will have three floors (G+2) and will reflect the glory of Treta Yuga in line with the importance of the temple city. The station will have the country’s largest concourse and the roof design is inspired by lotus petals.
Major facelift of Ayodhya Junction: Renovated signboards and murals of Lord Ram will grace the temple complex. The central dome of the temple is inspired by the crown of Lord Rama. According to District Magistrate Nitish Kumar, the station will resemble the façade of the Ram temple and will reflect the importance of Ayodhya.
Ayodhya Junction Facilities: The facilities available at the station will include spacious waiting rooms, toilets, lifts, and escalators. It will have a tourist information center to help people visiting the holy city from far-flung towns and even countries. The Prime Minister will flag off a new Vande Bharat station connecting Delhi’s Anand Vihar Junction.
Ayodhya Junction future plans: The first phase of the station was completed in 2022 and the District Magistrate said work on the second phase will start soon. It has a circulation capacity of 50,000-60,000 and once ready, it will be able to handle one lakh passengers. The entire cost has been estimated at Rs 430 crore.
