Lionel Messi is one of the best football players in the world. The Argentine international represented the national team in the FIFA World Cup 2022 held in Qatar.
He steered his team to the finals of the competition and also helped the team get the better of France in the all-important final encounter. The match lived up to the expectations of the fans from all across the world.
Argentina opened the account by scoring two goals in the first half whereas France didn’t have a single shot on target in the same half. However, the game tilted in the second half, which saw France dominating the game from the 70th minute onwards.
France largely benefitted from the services of Kylian Mbappe who netted twice to restore parity. The game was stretched to the extra time which saw Argentina scoring a goal with the help of Lionel Messi and just in the finishing minutes, France were awarded a penalty.
France scored a goal with the help of Mbappe who notched up a hat-trick in the final. However, Argentina’s goalkeeper was extraordinary as he saved one penalty and thus denied Kingsley Coman to score a penalty.
Argentina beat France on penalties and went on to lift their third FIFA World Cup in their history. Following the grand success, several others took to social media to praise Lionel Messi for winning the World Cup.
Moreover, some even put an end to the GOAT debate by saying that Messi is the best player in the world since Messi’s counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t win the FIFA World Cup.
