Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami’s wife made the headlines today after she moved the Supreme Court against a Calcutta High Court order rubbishing her appeal pursuing to lift stay on the arrest warrant against Mohammed Shami. For the record, a sessions court in West Bengal had stayed the arrest warrant that was issued against her husband.
Hasin Jahan, who is Mohammed Shami’s wife, through her counsels Deepak Prakash, Nachiketa Vajpayee and Divyangna Malik Vajpayee, recently challenged the Calcutta HC’s March 28 order whereby her prayer for revoking the session court order was dismissed.
In her plea, Shami’s wife alleged that her husband was having “illicit extra-marital relations and was engaged in sexual activities”, while on his BCCI tours, “in the hotel rooms provided by the BCCI even till the present day”.
“When the Petitioner raised her voice against it, she was assaulted and harassed by her husband and his family members, who also constantly demanded dowry from her,” she added.
The cricketer’s wife in an appeal before the Supreme Court raised concerns that there shall not be any special kind of treatment for celebrities under the law. For the unversed, from the last 4 years, the trial didn’t progress and has remained stayed, she added.
“Criminal Trial in the present case has been stayed for the past 4 years, without any just circumstances, in a case wherein Respondent No. 3 did not even pray for the stay of criminal trial and his sole grievance was only against the issuance of Arrest warrants against them, thus, the Sessions Court acted in an erroneous and biased manner, by virtue of which the rights and interests of the Petitioner have been severally jeopardized and prejudiced,” the petitioner said.
