Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir made the headlines after he made a shocking remark after Virat Kohli scored his 45th ODI century during the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
The former Indian skipper looked in superb touch with the bat as he scored his 73rd international century. It was also Kohli’s consecutive ODI century as he hammered his 44th ODI ton during the third ODI against Bangladesh in Chattogram earlier.
During the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli dictated terms from the word go and he let his bat do the talking in most part of the game. As a result, he was able to take Sri Lanka’s bowling attack to the cleaners.
The former Indian skipper scored 113 runs and helped India post 373/7 in 50 overs. India restricted Sri Lanka to 306/8 in 50 overs and won the game by 67 runs to take the first lead in the series.
“You can’t compare Virat with Sachin. In Sachin’s era there weren’t 5 players inside the 30-yard circle,” Gambhir said to Star Sports after Kohli scored a century in the first ODI.
“It was pretty ordinary bowling. The top three of the Indian batting line-up have got lots and lots of runs behind them. Rohit and Kohli obviously, Shubman also has the ability to get so many runs in international cricket. And how easy it was for Rohit and Shubman to get runs today. That was a surprise for me. You have to be consistent and Sri Lanka’s bowling outing was very very disappointing for me,” Gambhir added after the first innings.
