Meanwhile, Bhuban Badyakar was the latest viral sensation from Bengal. The man who used to sell peanuts at a remote village in Birbhum has performed live at a nightclub in Kolkata. He expressed his delight after becoming a celebrity.
“I am very happy being here with you all today,” he said while addressing a packed house at a posh Kolkata nightclub on Friday night. He was clad in a dazzling jacket and sang his viral Kacha Badam song and the fans were in awe of his performance.
For the unversed, three months ago, he was struggling to make ends meet as he got a meagre income from selling peanuts. Last week, a music company had handed him a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh as royalty for his tune.
“The fact that I have been able to reach you, people, here and all of you have showered so much love on me, I don’t have the words to express myself,” added the 50-year-old.
Notably, he also made an appearance on one of Bengal’s most popular TV reality shows hosted by none other than Sourav Ganguly! “He is such a humble person. Sourav even gave me a gift,” he added.
Bhuban further added that he stopped going out to sell peanuts after his village came to know about his instant growth “My neighbours told me not to go out, lest someone kidnaps me!”
He also added that he feels proud when his son tells him about new versions of the song he penned that went viral on the internet every day. “I want to be one of you, now that I am here. I want to remain an artist. I have become a celebrity now. If I go out selling peanuts as a celebrity, I will have to face humiliation,” Bhuban said.
