In a proud moment, Indian-origin politician Rishi Sunak has made India proud by becoming the UK’s new finance minister. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed Rishi Sunak as his new finance minister.
For the unversed, Rishi is son-in-law of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy. Rishi is married to Infosys founder Narayana Murthy’s daughter Akshata Murthy in 2009, whom he first met at Stanford.
He replaced Sajid Javid who resigned from the post of Chancellor of the Exchequer in a surprise move during the recent ministerial reshuffle by Johnson. The Queen was graciously pleased to approve the appointment of Rt Hon Rishi Sunak as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
He was extending his contribution as Chief Secretary of the Treasury. It is worth mentioning here that Rishi is known as a rising star of the Conservative Party of Britain. Besides this, he has also played an important role in the election campaign of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Furthermore, Rishi Sunak campaigned in support of abandoning the European Union in a referendum and 55 per cent of the people voted in his parliamentary constituency to leave the European Union. Besides Rishi, two more Indian origin Alok Sharma and Priti Patel are recruited as a Business minister and home minister in the UK cabinet.
Talking about Rishi Sunak’s early life, education and political career, he is of Indian origin and his family settled there. Rishi was born in Southampton, Hampshire, in the year 1980. He did his schooling at Winchester College. Later on, he studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.
In addition to that, he has done an MBA from Stanford University. Rishi’s father works as a doctor whereas his mother used to run a chemist shop. In his early days, Rishi used to work with his mother in her chemist shop.
Before trying his hand in the field of politics in the year 2015, Rishi plied his trade in investment bank Goldman Sash and hedge funds. After gaining the much-needed experience in this stream, he decided to create his own investment firm.
