Every year, more than 5 lakh students appear for JEE examinations, but only the ones with determination and hard work, secure a deserving place. However, not every student can afford proper education and facilities, yet they ace such exams and become an inspiration for the whole country.
Such inspiration is the 17year old Haritha, who is the daughter of a 45-year-old sanitation worker Gummakunda Chennaiah from Secunderabad Cantonment who secured the 1187th rank in the JEE Advanced examination.
Haritha was a student of Telangana Welfare Residential School in Gowlidoddi. She was felicitated by Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) CEO Ajith Reddy on October 9th. She says she owes her success to the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) that provides free education, food, and clothes to welfare schools.
Haritha is a devoted student, used to study for 16 hours a day to clear her engineering exams. On the announcement day, she couldn’t check her results due to internet problems. Her teachers called her up to congratulate her.
Her father said with pride, “My wife and I are uneducated, but we always knew that our daughter was good at studies. When her teachers called us to inform the JEE result, it took us some time to comprehend what she had achieved.”
The New Indian Express quoted her,
“I am happy that I could get free coaching for the JEE exam at my own school. My parents would not have been able to afford to send me to a normal coaching center. I have three younger sisters. Despite our financial condition, my parents never discouraged us from studying more and aiming higher”
