Power of Hard work- Till yesterday he was a constable, Now he becomes IPS officer

Transition in every individual’s life is obvious if one gives absolutely everything to fulfill the goal. Ask a successful person about how they did it and they would simply say there are no shortcuts to real success. One must realise that only hard work, great diligence as well as commitment is required to touch the pinnacle of success. Above all, believing in oneself is also one of the great ways to outsmart challenges.

How can you break the spirit of a man who has worked hard tooth and nail to get where he is? Manoj Kumar Rawat’s journey is one such that must be read by all youngsters. He had gone through difficulties in life but that didn’t stop him from unlocking his dream. Hailing from Jaipur’s Shyampura village in Rajasthan, Manoj Kumar Rawat secured 824th rank in the civil services exam, results of which were declared on 27th April, this year. He resigned his job as a constable to become an IPS officer.

Manoj can breathe a sigh of relief as all the hard work that he put towards securing a rank in the civil services exam paid off. The ex-constable Manoj said that his phone hasn’t stopped ringing ever since the UPSC results have been announced.

After getting a convincing result, he was touched by the friends, relatives and neighbours’ calls that kept coming to praise him. He went on to add saying that his journey hasn’t been easy. He told eNewsroom, “I am overwhelmed by the congratulatory message and calls that are pouring in. But believe me, this journey of mine has not been a cakewalk.”

In what was a major turning point in Manoj’s career, he got the much-needed inspiration from the cine star’s Sunny Deol’s Bollywood film, Indian, to become a police. It was this inspiration that saw him getting into the grand scheme of things of taking a job of a constable, which he resigned to become a lower divisional clerk at a lower court in Rajasthan. However, despite having a safe and secure job, he was not particularly pleased with his progress.

He had earlier remarked that he wants to crack the civil services exam as he believed he can become an IPS officer. Due to this reason, he had to quit his job first in a bid to begin his ideal preparations for the UPSC exam. He did what he felt was right but others were laughing at the decision he took. Against all odds, he bashed the critics by getting a good result in the exam.

“I always felt that I am destined to be an IPS officer and must appear for the UPSC exam. But that meant dedicated preparation for the exam, which wouldn’t be possible till I was in a fulltime job. I was ridiculed by many for having quit my job as a constable and then that of a lower divisional clerk at a lower court. They laughed at me. But I knew what I was doing and why,” he says.

NEVER GIVE UP ATTITUDE YIELDS GOOD RESULTS:

Manoj was someone who never gave up during tough times, come what may. It was only in the fifth attempt that he turned out to be fortunate for him. He said that he had cleared the UPSC prelims thrice and mains once, before relishing the feat. Manoj who values his end result as a big achievement remarked the fact that he had relished the dream after five long years of hard work.

Talking about his family background, he said his father is a school teacher and his mother is a homemaker. “After five years of sustained effort has I have realized a dream that I had seen as a child. I come from a humble background; my father is a school teacher and my mother a homemaker. So, yes it a big achievement for me, given the fact that even today, the life of Dalits in India is still difficult.”

The man with social intelligence wishes to bring about a change in the society and works towards fighting violence against women and atrocities against Dalits if he gets the IPS post, which is very obvious in the times to come.

Speaking about his decision to move to Delhi, he said, “A lot of preparation and serious study is needed to crack UPSC. It’s not just me, thousands of civil service aspirants arrive in Delhi, with the sole objective of getting the best training to crack this exam.

Thereby, creating an environment where 24×7 aspirants live in an ambience that makes them focus on one thing, which is to clear the UPSC. My decision to move on to Delhi definitely helped me achieve my goal. With access to learning resources, books, coaching and more, Delhi is the best place to be for any UPSC aspirant.”

Knowing the familial circumstances, difficulties and drawbacks and also no luxury of time or resources, he had to do something spectacular to bring a smile on his family members’ faces. He also enrolled for his PhD and got selected for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) not once but two times and had also cracked the examination for CISF’s assistant commandant’s post.

Digging a bit deep on his subject for PhD subject, he says, “Ambedkar View: Dalit Empowerment and Social Justice is my research topic, which I shall be submitting next year for review. I must add that the JRF stipend has helped me fund the expense for my UPSC preparations.”
