TikTok is one of the most popular social media apps that allows you to share short clips and the idea is to use dance or lip sync to ‘background music or movie dialogues’ to create the most viral clip. Though it has massive growth in India, it has come largely under fire for promoting misleading content.
In a shocking incident that has gone viral on social media, the account of Faizal Siddiqui has been suspended with immediate effect for promoting acid attack. The matter was brought to light when Siddiqui posted a clip in which he was seen throwing a liquid on a girl’s face for betraying him. Later, the girl is seen in the clip with grotesque make-up, suggesting a disfigured face.
Faizal is a social media influencer who had over 13 million followers on TikTok. Siddiqui was suspended by TikTok for violating multiple community guidelines. Now, he is facing people’s ire on social media for promoting acid attacks on girls.
Siddiqui’s video invited several people to troll him and a lot of people started criticizing him for throwing acid on the girl. He is now facing a lot of problems and there seems to be no end to problems.
“Keeping people on TikTok safe is a top priority and we make it clear in our Term of Service and Community Guidelines that clearly outlines what is not acceptable on our platform. As per the policy, we do not allow content that risks safety of others, promotes physical harm or glorifies violence against women. The behaviour in question violates our guidelines and we have taken down content, suspended the account, and are working with law enforcement agencies as appropriate,” said a TikTok spokesperson.
The video received a lot of criticism for glorifying acid attack. Several people were annoyed with Siddiqui’s misogynistic behavior in the video. Acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal, on the other hand, lashed out at Faizal. She took out her anger on Faizal Siddiqui.
Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of National Commission for Women, said she is taking the matter to both police and TikTok India after BJP MLA Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga flaggedthe controversial video on Twitter. Sharma on May 19 called for a ‘total ban’ on the platform India.
