Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi created a huge controversy after his distasteful comments on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kashmir. Indian cricketers, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina launched a scathing attack on Shahid Afridi for his controversial remarks.
Earlier, Shahid Afridi made controversial remarks on Kashmir during his recent visit to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). In a video clip which is doing the rounds on the social media platform, Shahid Afridi is seen spewing venom among the citizens at a village in PoK.
Afridi can be heard criticising Indian PM Narendra Modi for deploying a huge force in the Kashmir valley.
“I’ve been deeply humbled by all the love shown to me by the people of Kashmir. I hope that there will be a team from Kashmir in the next edition of the PSL. If there will be a team from Kashmir, I will want to play for that team. Afridi had also taken to Twitter to comment on Kashmir. “It does not take a religious belief to feel the agony of Kashmiris…just a right heart at the right place. Save Kashmir,” Shahid Afridi had written.
Meanwhile, cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir took to his official Twitter handle and reply about the same. Gambhir wrote: “Pak has 7 lakh force backed by 20 Cr ppl says 16 yr old man @SAfridiOfficial. Yet begging for Kashmir for 70 yrs.”
“Jokers like Afridi, Imran & Bajwa can spew venom against India & PM @narendramodi ji to fool Pak ppl but won’t get Kashmir till judgment day! Remember Bangladesh?” he added.
After receiving immense backlash on social media, Harbhajan Singh spoke about Shahid Afridi’s comments.
“This is very upsetting what Shahid Afridi has come up with, talking ill about our country and our Prime Minister. This is just not acceptable,” Harbhajan told India Today.
Explaining about his tweet to donate to the Shahid Afridi foundation, the off-spinner said his appeal to assist people was a gesture to assist those the need. Harbhajan also made it very clear that Shahid Afridi has crossed his limit.
“To be honest, he (Afridi) asked us to make an appeal for his charity. In good faith, we did it for humanity and for the people suffering due to the Coronavirus.
Former Indian elegant cricketer Yuvraj Singh has also expressed his thoughts after Shahid Afridi’s recent controversial comments on India. Taking to Twitter, Yuvraj Singh wrote: “Really disappointed by @SAfridiOfficial‘s comments on our Hon’b PM @narendramodi ji. As a responsible Indian who has played for the country, I will never accept such words. I made an appeal on your behest for the sake of humanity. But never again. Jai Hind.”
Experienced Indian cricketer Suresh Raina also chipped in with his opinion against Shahid Afridi’s recent controversial comments on India. Raina took to Twitter and wrote: “Gosh! What all a person must do to remain relevant! Even more so for a nation that is living on alms. So, better do something for your failed nation and leave #Kashmir alone. I am a proud Kashmiri and it is and will always remain an inalienable part of India. Jai Hind!”
