Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and Congress locked horns after he took a dig at Congress president Sonia Gandhi, accusing her of being silent on the Palghar mob lynching incident.
A war between Arnab Goswami and Congress has escalated and triggered a political storm. Following the shocking attack on the editor and his wife Samyabrata Ray, several journalists have strongly condemned the coward attack and extended their solidarity towards Republic Media Network.
India’s most expensive lawyer Harish Salve in a debate with Arnab Goswami on Republic TV condemned the attack on Goswami. Goswami said in the debate that Republic Bharat has been asking the interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi questions from April 20 why she remained silent on the Palghar mob lynching incident for multiple days.
One of India’s most renowned lawyers Harish Salve said that this is disturbing at so many levels. He recently wrote an article on why the cops are rightly not interfering. “I have no way to understand why those people are not in jail for the offense of attempting to cause grievous hurt, there was a lady in the car and they attempted to attack her,” said Salve.
The accused should have been arrested and put in custody and should have been introduced before the court by now, he added. The lawyer further said, “the whole country will support you. If the people of 1975 mindset feel that they can get away with this crime, they should remember they did not get away with this in 1977 and they are going to get away with this in 2020 for sure”.
An FIR was also registered against Goswami for attacking Congress president Sonia Gandhi during his TV show. The following day, the editor and his wife Samyabrata Ray were attacked by two persons who were later identified as Arun Borade and Prateek Mishra.
The incident took place when Goswami was returning home along with his wife from their studios in Lower Parel. The editor Goswami held Congress responsible for the attack. Later, he shared a video in which he said that he will keep on raising questions against Congress President for not speaking on the lynching happened in Maharashtra’s Palghar district.
The legendary singer Asha Bhosle also strongly criticized the cowardly attack and termed Goswami an ‘honest journalist’ and termed it ‘upsetting’ that he and his family was attacked by his opponents. Bhosle also stated that physical violence is ‘unacceptable’ and hoped for the truth to prevail.
