The 24-year-old woman medical student named Shahnaz Khan has been the talk of the town ever since becoming the youngest and the most educated Sarpanch of Rajasthani village. She hogged the limelight in the recent by-elections of the Garhazan village in Bharatpur district after taking oath as Sarpanch.
In a place where girls are not been driven to the education mode, the literacy rate in the Bharatpur district reads 70.1% which is higher than the state average 66.1 percent, there is a difference in the level of education of boys and girls which is nearly 30%.
“People in Mewat area don’t send their daughters to schools. I will present before them my own example to show what education can do for a woman,” Shahnaaz said after taking oath as sarpanch on Monday, as reported by The Hindustan Times.
However, after becoming the village head, Shahnaz has come up with some strategies in a bid to bring massive changes to the field of education. Shahnaz Khan, who is aware of all the state’s condition in terms of education for girls, said that she has got the chance to serve the people.
Also, she added saying that she wants to set an example for girls on how education can play an important role in their lives. “I am happy that I have got the opportunity to serve my people. My priorities will be the education of girls and sanitation. I want to set an example for girls on how education can help in so many ways,” said Shahnaz after winning the elections.

Shahnaz Khan is currently relishing her favourite route as she is pursuing MBBS from Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College and Research Center in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The woman medical student also has other ideas of joining politics in the times to come.
Also, she said that she is pretty much confident that she can manage her studies and grass-root level politics at the same time. It is learnt that she will soon start her internship at Civil Hospital in Gurugram and will later mark her presence for an entrance examination for a postgraduate course in medicine.
Background:
Interestingly, Shahnaaz Khan comes from a family of politicians barring her grandfather. Shahnaaz’s mother Zahida Khan is a former MLA from Kaman constituency in the district, whereas her father, Jalees Khan, was Kaman pradhan, the head of block-level panchayat body.
“My family is committed to serving the people. Shahnaaz joined politics to fulfil her grandfather’s dreams. She will serve the Meo (Muslim) community (the largest community inhabiting the region) because it is backward,” said Zahida.
