Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir hit the headlines on Tuesday as he urged the countrymen to strictly follow the nationwide lockdown extension, as announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the ongoing nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country will continue till May 3.
Addressing the country on Tuesday, the day when the previous 21-day lockdown was set to conclude, the Prime Minister appreciated the resolve of Indians in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
PM Modi had also warned that the COVID-19 cases in the nation will increase in the next week.
“Next one week, the fight will be tightened and lockdown will be enforced even more strongly. We have to ensure that we do not allow the coronavirus to grow. Hotspots have to be isolated and lockdown enforced more stringently,” he said.
“If any area turns back after this relaxation, curbs will be reintroduced. Hence, please be very careful,” he said.
Taking to Twitter, the cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir wrote: “We, the people of India, have done it for 21 days and we will do it for a couple of more weeks. Please follow the lockdown guidelines #StayHomeStaySafe Together we can fight this pandemic. #IndiaFightsCorona @narendramodi @Bjp4Delhi #Lockdown2.”
As of April 14, the COVID-19 epidemic has claimed more than 1,20,863 lives and infected over 19,30,780 people globally. 4,64,398 people recovered from the pandemic globally.
In India, around 10,815 confirmed cases have been reported, 1,190 people have been recovered from the disease and 353 people have lost their lives thus far.
