US President Donald Trump will make his first state trip to India on February 24, nearly five months after he joined Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the grand ‘Howdy, Modi’ event in Houston, Texas. Besides President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump will also arrive for a two-day India visit.
Donald Trump will travel to New Delhi and Ahmedabad, which is in PM Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat.
“During a phone call over the weekend, President Trump and Prime Minister Modi agreed the trip will further strengthen the United States-India strategic partnership and highlight the strong and enduring bonds between the American and Indian people,” White House said in a statement.
President Donald Trump will “interact with a wide cross-section of the Indian society,” Foreign Ministry has said.
In an attempt to shield or hide US President Donald Trump from the sight of slums in India, Ahmedabad authorities have constructed a wall. When asked about the same, the authorities say it is being constructed for security reasons.
Needless to say, the senior government added that the wall was being built for security reasons and not to hide the slum district
“I’ve been ordered to build a wall as soon as possible, over 150 masons are working round-the-clock to finish the project,” the contractor said on condition of anonymity.
The official added that the newly-built wall was part of a “beautification and cleanliness” drive.
Needless to say, the 400-meter-long and a seven-feet-high wall constructed for beautification, conceals a slum district which has around 800 families.
Donald Trump will visit India on February 24-25 to reaffirm strategic relationship that have been afflicted by trade disputes.
The event is known as “Kem Chho Trump” (“How are you, Trump”) at a stadium in Ahmedabad.
“Poverty and slums are the reality of our life, but Modi’s government wants to hide the poor,” said a day worker who lived there with his family for more than 30 years.
