Saurabh Chaudhary is going places! He is on a different level altogether. Whenever he keeps participating in shooting events, winning medals is like a hot knife through butter for him. It was yet another day for the youngster to make India proud as he claimed the silver medal in men’s 10m air pistol event to continue India’s glory at the 14th Asian Championship in Doha.
World Cup and Asian Games gold-medallist who is well known for his accuracy had shot 244.5 to finish 2nd on the podium behind North Korea’s Kim Song Guk, who bagged the top prize with a world record of 246.5. Iran’s Foroughi Javed settled for the bronze medal.
With 583 points, both Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma qualified for the finals in 7th and 6th place respectively. Needless to say, Verma settled for fifth-place finish in the eight-man final.
It is worth mentioning here that Saurabh Chaudhary, Abhishek Verma and Sharvan Kumar won the team bronze with an aggregate score of 1740 in the qualifying, finishing just behind China (1745) and Korea (1744). It should be noted that Saurabh Chaudhary and Verma had already booked their Olympic quotas in the earlier competitions.
Meanwhile, Shreya Agrawal and Dhanush Srikanth bagged gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team junior competition, while Gurnihal Garcha, Abhay Singh Sekhon and Ayush Rudraraju won the team gold in the junior men’s skeet.
Gurnihal Garcha also won an individual silver medal with a score of 50 in the finals.
