As the contact from Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander to ISRO’s ground station was lost just minutes before touchdown, citizens who witnessed the whole thing united on social media and asked the Indian Space Research Organisation to not lose hope.
PM Narendra Modi who was present at the ISRO Centre in Bengaluru, in a tweet consoled the Indian scientists at ISRO and said: “Nation is proud of you.”
“India is proud of our scientists! They’ve given their best and have always made India proud. These are moments to be courageous, and courageous we will be! Chairman @isro gave updates on Chandrayaan-2. We remain hopeful and will continue working hard on our space programme,” Modi tweeted.
Addressing the media, ISRO chairman, K Sivan said that the space agency lost communications with the Vikram lander when the mission was at a height of 2.1 kilometres from the moon’s surface. He also said that the lander’s descent was going normally.
From Ram Nath Kovind to Amit Shah, many politicians also reacted on Twitter and extended support to ISRO.
