Onam is considered as the biggest ever festival in Kerala which will be celebrated next month. And during all the special festivities and feasting one special item which is in high demand is plantain, to make banana chips.
Yes, this is the right time of the year when plantain farmers have their crop all set for harvest so as to make the process much simpler.
But unfortunately, the heavy rains wreaked havoc and devastated their crops. Heartbreaking!
MS Anish Kumar, a Kerala-based journalist shared a story on his profile that will surely leave you in tears.
Kumar who was reporting regarding the flash floods in Idukki district wrote that he stumbled upon Ashokan, a plantain farmer in Rajakkad near Munnar, during one such work.
Ashokan had lost over a thousand fully grown plantain trees due to heavy rains.
But as Kumar and his teammates were about to leave Ashokan approached them with a bunch of plantains.
“Please give this to any relief camp on the way. I am heartbroken after seeing on TV what has happened in Malappuram and Wayanad. I don’t have any money to give. So, please at least give this,” Ashokan told Kumar.
