In what appeared straight out of a movie scene, a woman accelerated her car into a river when she inadvertently hit the accelerator pedal thinking that it was a brake.
The video of the accident is doing the rounds on social media. City of Hackensack Fire Department uploaded the video of the exact moment the woman accelerated and plunged straight into the river. The accident happened at the Spotless car wash in Hackensack, New Jersey.
“Engine 5, Rescue 1, Safety and Deputy 4 responded to 424 River Street in the rear for a car that went off the embankment into the river. One minor injury to the occupant. Car was leaving the car wash when the incident occurred driver hit the gas on mistake Hackensack police to conduct investigation. Towing company on seeing to do removal @hackensackpd @pfanj.iaff @ Hackensack, New Jersey,” City of Hackensack Fire Department posted.
The Fire Department also shared a Facebook post captioned, ‘Car was leaving the car wash when the incident occurred – driver hit the gas on mistake’ and after that, they shared the pictures of a car submerged in water.
The CCTV footage of the unfortunate incident was also shared by the fire department and they wrote, ‘The occupants of the car self extricated to the shoreline.’
CBS reported that a 64-year-old woman was driving the vehicle and her daughter was in the passenger’s seat. The eyewitnesses present at the spot helped the two women out of the car.

Luckily for them, no one sustained any injuries. However, the 64-year-old had to be taken to the nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.
Then a towing company had to be called to take the car out of the river.
