The general elections started on April 11 and will continue in 7 phases. As the first phase already concluded, the second phase took place on April 18 in the states of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Tamil Nadu and others.
Polling is being carried out for 49 seats in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, UP, Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur and Puducherry. Social media is full of big celebrities casting their votes in their respective states.
One of the photos which spread like wildfire was Google CEO Sundar Pichai, with catchy captions saying that he came all the way to Tamil Nadu from the US to get his finger inked.
The post which went viral on social media has been shared by the Facebook page- ‘Poor Guy Sayings’ which has more than nine lakh followers on Facebook.
Maybe the intention behind the posts would have been to encourage the fellow netizens to go out and elect their representative. But the news of Sundar Pichai casting vote in Tamil Nadu is not true. Sundar Pichai is a US citizen, and so he cannot vote in India. So it is certain that he did not come down to Tamil Nadu to cast his vote.
He tweeted the photo a couple of years ago, but that has been taken now and is being circulated.
The original photo is in 2017 when Sundar shared it along with two other photos on Twitter when he visited IIT Kharagpur, his alma mater in West Bengal, in January 2017.
He addressed over 3,000 students and discussed India’s startup and the digital economy. Also, this was reportedly his first visit to the premier engineering institute after he graduated from there in 1993.
Also got to visit my alma mater (and old dorm room!) for the first time in 23 years. Thanks to everyone @IITKgp for the warm welcome! pic.twitter.com/OUn7mlKGI7
