Weeks prior to the Lok Sabha elections and a day after launching ” Main Bhi Chowkidar” campaign on the micro-blogging Twitter platform, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today changed his personal Twitter handle name to Chowkidar Narendra Modi. Following PM, BJP president and other BJP leaders too changed their profile names to Chowkidar Amit Shah, Chowkidar Piyush Goyal, etc.
The campaign has been launched to counter the Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s ” chowkidar chor hai” dig against the Prime Minister. The party has initiated the campaign as part of its plan to turn the tables as it did in the year 2014 by aggressively countering former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar’s “chaiwalla” jibe.

Recently, Congress president has been attacking Narendra Modi for allegedly doing corruption in Rafale deal and his close connection with some businessmen. PM Narendra Modi yesterday launched a ‘main bhi chowkidar’ (I too am watchman) campaign and urged his fans and supporters to take a pledge. He said, adding that he is not alone in the fight against graft and social evils.
As Chowkidars of our nation, we are committed to creating a clean economy by using cashless financial transactions.
The menace of corruption and black money has adversely affected us for decades. Time to eliminate these for a better future. #MainBhiChowkidar #ChowkidarPhirSe pic.twitter.com/y44vwyM4xs

“Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter.
Narendra Modi also shared a 3.45-minute video with the tweet captioned “Take The Pledge”, urging people to join Modi on March 31 at 6 pm for a video programme titled ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar”.
In the video, Modi labelled himself a watchman and said that he was not alone, in a bid to counter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s “chowkidar chor hai” jibe.
Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation.
But, I am not alone.
Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar.
Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar.
Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar
