Security cameras are becoming the need of an hour in today’s world and 9-year-old girl by the name of S Srihita knew exactly about its importance. Srihita, a Class 3 student was keen to offer much-needed assistance to the police. She also took part in a meeting organised by Chennai Police which was close to her father’s office.
After a few days, Srihita and her father bought a total of 30 CCTV cameras with the money which her father had kept reserved for her birthday celebrations and donated it to the police.
“I was speaking to Sathyanarayana about CCTV cameras. He may have then spoken about it at home. Srihitha is a fan of former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who is the Lt. Governor of Puducherry. She spoke to me over the phone and later told her dad that she wanted to donate her birthday savings to the police,” H Krishnamoorthy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Royapettah, Chennai, told The Hindu.
Her contribution is something we all need to learn. She was honoured by Chennai Police commissioner AK Viswanathan at the inauguration ceremony of the CCTV cameras.
The ‘Third Eye’ project of Chennai police is a public-private firm based in Chennai that works towards installing CCTV cameras at every 50 meters in the city. The cost of the overall project is Rs 69.37 crore.
“The third eye project has helped us solve crimes quicker. Instead of questioning multiple suspects and leads in connection with a crime, we can narrow down on the culprit with the help of cameras,” H Krishnamoorthy added in a statement.
