Considering the US Presidential elections which are just a year away from choosing the right candidate, a Hindu-American, Tulsi Gabbard is all set to contest for the upcoming elections. She also happens to be the first Hindu to be ever elected to the U.S Congress and there is a possibility that the US may get a first-ever Hindu president.
It should be noted that in an anti-incumbency wave in 2016, Republicans took whole responsibility of the White House and Donald Trump was elected as the US President. On the contrary, his rival Hillary Clinton experienced an abysmal defeat which raised doubts if she will again contest in 2020.
In an interview due to air on CNN on Saturday evening, Tulsi Gabbard says: “There are a lot of challenges that are facing the American people that I’m concerned about and that I want to help solve.” BBC reported.
The 37-year-old notified that a formal announcement will be made this week. She is a US army veteran and also a native of American Samoa. She is a U.S Democrat Representative from Hawaii where former President Barack Obama grew up there.
Indian-Americans are the U.S’ richest ethnic community and they are following both Ms Gabbard and Kamala Harris. Interestingly, Kamala Harris is Indian American from her mother’s side and African American from her father’s, she preferred to project her African American side which hasn’t really pleased the Hindu community there.
On the contrary, Gabbard, who is a practicising Hindu, is widely respected by Hindu Americans. She was elected to the U.S Congress in the year 2012 and once she makes an official announcement she will become the first Hindu ever to contest for the Presidential elections. “I look forward to being able to get into this and to talk about it in depth when we make our announcement.” Gabbard had further said to the CNN anchor.
