Here’s one more reason why Mary Kom is India’s gem. She became the World No 1 (48kg weight division) in the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) world rankings. Her unmatched sixth world title success has steered her to the number one position in the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) latest world rankings.
Hailing from Manipur, the experienced campaigner became the most prominent boxer in world championships’ history when she claimed the 48kg category top honours in November last year in the national capital. In the latest rankings released by AIBA, Mary Kom is positioned on top of the charts in the weight division with 1700 points.
The 36-year-old enjoyed 2018 through and through, picking up gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and a tournament in Poland. She also clinched silver at the prestigious Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria.
What an inspiration Mary Kom is! She won sixth Boxing Championship Gold medal which no other female boxer in the world has achieved. One of the biggest sporting icons in India, from her challenging journey to now becoming the best in the world.
We are always proud of our sporting Indian teams and individuals who represent our country with tonnes of pride and create some unforgettable moments in the process.
