In a sensational development, India will soon have the world’s largest cricket stadium. It is currently under construction in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The 700 crore ($100 million) stadium was sanctioned at the beginning of 2017, when a few senior officials were called upon in Motera Ahmedabad, on January 16, 2017, to grace the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of the new stadium.
The Gujarat Cricket Association Vice-President, Parimal Nathwani took to Twitter to upload pictures of the construction in which he stated that this is the dream project of the state cricket board and after its completion, it will become a ‘symbol of pride’ for the nation.
“World’s Largest Cricket Stadium, larger than #Melbourne, is under construction at #Motera in #Ahmedabad,#Gujarat. Once completed the dream project of #GujaratCricketAssociation will become pride of entire India. Sharing glimpses of construction work underway. @BCCI @ICC #cricket,” he wrote.

It is learnt that the stadium will be built across 63 acres of land, with an overall budget estimated at INR 700 crores, with the assistance of L&T and Populous, who have been given the major construction tender and the opportunity to design it.
The infrastructure includes three practice grounds including indoor cricket academy, inside the stadium. The massive parking area will accommodate about 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers. The stadium also includes 76 corporate boxes, four dressing rooms, a club-house and an Olympic-size swimming pool.
Once fully constructed, the stadium will have a seating capacity of 1.1 lakh, which will beat Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground which has the capacity of 1 lakh.
