PM Narendra Modi wrote a long letter praising Gautam Gambhir for his massive contribution to Indian cricket and his work on social causes. Gambhir played 58 Tests for India, scoring 4154 runs. In 147 ODIs, he scored 5238 runs, while in 37 T20Is, he scored 932 runs.

Gambhir was quite phenomenal ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC World Cup 2011 final but sadly, his performances were overlooked. He brought a significant impact to Indian cricket and will always be remembered as India’s Unsung hero. Off the field, he has made ample contribution to society.
Gautam Gambhir who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket of late thanked the PM for his kind words. “Thanks, @narendramodi @PMOIndia for the kind words. Nothing of this would have been possible without love and support of our fellow countrymen. All these deeds are dedicated to our country,” he said in the same tweet posted along with the letter.

There were reports that Gambhir may join politics as he announced his retirement from cricket but he politely rejected it.
