A woman who was coming from Sao Paulo was caught red-handed at the Delhi airport after she was found carrying over 74 capsules comprising 900 grams of Colombian cocaine in her stomach.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths also caught two Nigerians working for the same association of manufacturers. The seized cocaine worth Rs 4 crore is the most expensive thing available in the market. This shipment was to be delivered for the forthcoming Christmas and New Year parties in Delhi-NCR.
Madho Singh who is the zonal director of NCB explained that his teams had received information that the woman, a Jamaican national, will be coming to the national capital via Addis Ababa by an Ethiopian Airlines flight on the date December 6.
The NCB set up a surveillance at the terminal and spotted the woman correctly as her details completely matched the description provided by the main source. She was put to a halt and her baggage was checked, but nothing such variety could be found. The police then took her to Safdarjung Hospital for a medical inspection.
An X-ray examination further confirmed that there were as many ‘foreign bodies’ inside the woman’s stomach. The doctors got the woman admitted and gave some medicines. According to the sources, she was fed a lot of bananas. And finally, she expelled the 74 capsules having cocaine.
Following that, the woman was arrested. She told the police about the 2 Nigerians she was supposed to give the drugs to. They were also arrested and produced before a court that sent them to judicial custody.
The cops said that the investigation is still on and more arrests were possible in the case. “The agency is now on the look out for other people of the syndicate based in India. The foreign authorities concerned are also being approached in this regard,” Madho Singh said.
