When we see ‘green colour’, it reminds us of trees, plants, grass etc. Trees are the best living creatures on the planet because it gives the necessary oxygen to the humans, animals and other living species. To emphasize the importance of trees, in particular, they are selfless creatures that don’t ask anything in return barring the plethora supply of water.
Almost 3 decades ago, a teenager, after observing the deaths of a large number of reptiles owing to a lack of trees, started planting Bamboo in a barren area that had been completely washed away by floods. Today, the barren land has turned into a 1,360 acre-Jungle popularly called Molai Forest which is named after Jadav “Molai” Payeng, he alone did this outstanding work. This is why is called as the ‘Forest man of India’.
It’s because of him, life has returned to its original place. The forest is now home to Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceros, rabbits, apes, birds, elephants, deer etc. The 55-year-old Jadav ‘Molai’ Payeng is a native of the Mishing tribe of Jorhat district in Assam. It is not that easy to turn a barren area to a thick forest but he made it look so.
The venture started when Jadav, after finishing his Class 10 exams from Baligaon Jagannath Baruah Arya Vidyalaya in Jorhat, returned to Aruna Sapori which is a river island on the Brahmaputra. Little did he know that over a hundred lifeless snakes on the deserted sandbar.
“I asked my elders what would they do if all of us die one day, like these snakes. They just laughed and smirked, but I knew I had to make the planet greener, he said, according to The Better India.”
What’s next?
With a steady decline of trees due to the infamous deforestation activities, the planet is losing its core part of trees. Without trees, life on earth is unimaginable and planting trees should be our main motive. Some states in India have already taken the initiative and are planting as many as trees to counter the pollution.
What are you waiting for? We are going to planting trees! Will you take this initiative to plant at least one after reading this article? Let’s show the world that we love mother nature. We do so many things and waste time but planting one tree will have so many good effects and positives.
