Rohit Sharma and Royal Challengers Bengaluru? That’s a combo many fans are dreaming about—especially after the Indian captain reportedly looked set to part ways with Mumbai Indians (MI). But it was Ravichandran Ashwin’s savage and spot-on reply that stole the show during a recent fan chat.
Rohit, who made his IPL debut in 2008 for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, became a Mumbai Indians legend after joining them in the 2011 IPL mega auction.

Since then, he’s been MI’s backbone—scoring the most runs, hitting the most sixes, and playing the most matches for the franchise. And let’s not forget—he’s the only player with six IPL titles, five of which came under his captaincy in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
Although MI removed him from captaincy ahead of IPL 2024, Rohit still made headlines—finishing as MI’s top run-getter in the season. Then came the cherry on top: leading India to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 title and finishing as India’s leading run-scorer in the tournament. Simply put—Rohit is still on fire.
So, when a die-hard RCB fan appeared on Ashwin’s YouTube channel and passionately declared that he would “go all-out” to get Rohit into RCB if he were part of the management, the excitement was real. The fan even imagined the roar of M Chinnaswamy Stadium if Rohit and Virat opened together. Goosebumps, right?
But Ashwin, never one to miss a witty comeback, hit back with an epic line.
“Agar Rohit Sharma ke liye aap jaa rahe hai to 20 crore rakhna padega.”
(“If you’re going for Rohit Sharma, you better have ₹20 crore saved up.”)
Ashwin’s response had the perfect blend of reality and humor. Will we see Rohit donning RCB red next year? It seems it is highly unlikely and he is happy at Mumbai Indians, playing good knocks as an Impact Player.
