IndiGo Airlines Replies After Passenger Accuses Flight Attendant of stealing 5-yr-old daughter’s Gold Chain

IndiGo Airlines is back in the headlines, and not for anything good. Known as one of India’s most used low-cost carriers, IndiGo often finds itself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

From passenger scuffles to crew misbehavior, controversy seems to follow the airline like turbulence on a stormy flight. And now, it’s once again facing serious allegations that are as bizarre as they are concerning.

IndiGo Airlines Replies After Passenger Accuses Flight Attendant of stealing 5-yr-old daughter's Gold Chain

This time, a woman named Priyanka Mukherjee has accused an IndiGo flight attendant of allegedly stealing a gold chain from her 5-year-old daughter—yes, mid-flight.

The incident took place on April 1, aboard an IndiGo flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru. Priyanka was traveling with her two young daughters, aged five and two. During the journey, as Priyanka tried to calm her crying toddler, a flight attendant—Aditi Ashwini Sharma—stepped in and offered to watch over the older daughter.

According to Priyanka, things seemed fine until the end of the flight—when she realized the gold necklace her elder daughter had been wearing was gone. The chain reportedly weighed around 20 grams and had vanished without explanation.

“I noticed that the gold necklace weighing around 20 grams that my daughter wore was missing,” Priyanka said.

IndiGo’s Response

After the story sparked online outrage, IndiGo finally broke its silence. The airline issued a short statement:

“We are aware of a recent incident involving a staff member on flight 6E 661 from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru, regarding a concern raised by our customer. We take such matters extremely seriously and are providing full support and cooperation to the relevant authorities in carrying out the investigations.”

Our opinion!

While the airline claims to be cooperating, questions remain unanswered. Why wasn’t the staff member made available for questioning? Why is there no CCTV footage? And more importantly, why do such strange incidents keep happening on IndiGo flights?
