IndiGo Airlines has often received complaints from passengers over the years, ranging from service issues to in-flight experiences. Recently, a bizarre incident on one of its flights caught attention when a passenger’s seat started swinging mid-air.
A man flying from Delhi to Lucknow had a “mini heart attack” after noticing that his seat was moving back and forth just moments after takeoff. The passenger, identified as Sethi, shared a video of the experience on Instagram, alerting the airline. IndiGo responded swiftly, apologizing and assuring him that his feedback was taken “extremely seriously.”

Terrifying Experience Mid-Flight
“The first time it happened, it was a terrifying feeling tbh. Never experienced anything like this. The seats could literally swing back and forth,” Sethi wrote in his post.
He further explained that the crew quickly responded by relocating the affected passengers to vacant seats. Additionally, they called maintenance personnel to inspect the issue upon landing.
“It may not look like a serious deal, but I would not want an elderly person with a medical issue, sitting on such a seat in a flying aircraft,” he added.
The video showed Sethi and two other passengers sitting on seats that unexpectedly started swinging. He later described the experience as “terrifying” and pointed out that such incidents reflect poor aircraft maintenance.
IndiGo‘s Response
IndiGo addressed the incident by commenting on Sethi’s video: “Mr. Sethi, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. We sincerely apologise for your onboard experience. Apparently, this was an anomaly (sic), a very unusual occurrence as these seats have a locking mechanism.”
The airline further assured that the matter was being investigated thoroughly. “Please be assured that your feedback is being taken extremely seriously and this will be investigated thoroughly. We understand our crew responded promptly to address the situation and provided you with an alternate seat. The safety and comfort of our customers remain our topmost priority. We appreciate your feedback and assure you of our continued commitment to providing a safe, hassle-free, and enjoyable travel experience to all our customers.”
While IndiGo’s quick response and assurance are commendable, such incidents raise concerns about maintenance and passenger safety. As air travel grows, ensuring well-maintained aircraft should remain a top priority for airlines.
