Sachin Tendulkar, the undisputed legend of Indian cricket, needs no introduction. With over 34,000 international runs, the Master Blaster dominated world cricket for over two decades.

However, his latest post on Saturday took a different turn—one that had fans buzzing with speculation and nostalgia.

Tendulkar shared a picture of himself standing in front of a massive three-trunked tree, striking a shadow-batting pose as if the trunks were stumps. But what really stole the spotlight was his caption:

“Can you guess which umpire made the stumps feel this big?”

This cheeky remark instantly sent fans into detective mode, with one name popping up more than any other—Steve Bucknor. The former West Indian umpire had a history of controversial decisions against Tendulkar, and soon enough, his name began trending on X.

Fans Recall Steve Bucknor’s Umpiring Howlers

Bucknor, one of the most experienced umpires in cricket history, officiated in 128 Tests and 181 ODIs, including a record five consecutive ICC Cricket World Cup Finals (1992-2007). However, for many Indian fans, he is best remembered for some questionable calls against Sachin.

One of the most infamous incidents occurred in 2003, during a Test against Australia, when Bucknor wrongly adjudged Tendulkar LBW despite the ball heading well over the stumps. In the days before DRS (Decision Review System), there was no way for Sachin to overturn the decision, leaving fans fuming.

Another controversial call came in 2005, when Bucknor ruled Tendulkar caught behind, even though replays showed there was no edge. These errors, along with a few more throughout Sachin’s career, made Bucknor a rather unpopular figure among Indian supporters.

Bucknor’s Legacy and His Take on Past Mistakes

Despite these contentious moments, Bucknor had a long and respected umpiring career spanning 20 years. He became the first umpire to officiate in 100 Test matches before retiring in 2009. Interestingly, in his later years, Bucknor acknowledged some of his errors, admitting he got a few decisions against Tendulkar wrong.

At 78 years old, Bucknor has long moved on from the game, but thanks to Sachin’s witty post, his name was once again at the center of cricket discussions.
