In an interview with IndiaToday.in, the actress, who comes from a conservative Muslim family, opened up about dealing with constant trolling, her thoughts on marriage, and her evolving views on religion.
Urfi feels her bold looks and outspoken nature make her a target for criticism, especially from her own community. “I am a Muslim girl. Most of the hate comments I receive are from Muslim people,” she shared. According to her, many Muslim men expect women to conform to certain norms, and her refusal to do so sparks outrage. “They hate me because I don’t behave the way they expect me to as per their religion,” she said bluntly.
Urfi admits she doesn’t follow Islam, citing the control it imposes on women as a key reason. “I don’t believe in Islam because of this,” she said.
Why she will never marry a Muslim guy?
When asked about marrying outside her community, Urfi was clear. “I will never marry a Muslim guy. I don’t believe in Islam, and I don’t follow any religion, so I don’t care who I fall in love with. We should marry whoever we want to,” she stated.
Urfi believes that love and marriage should transcend religious boundaries. For her, religion is a personal choice, not something to be imposed on others.
Urfi’s strong views are rooted in her personal experiences. Her father, whom she describes as very conservative, left the family when she was just 17. Despite being deeply religious, her mother never forced Islam on her or her siblings. “My siblings follow Islam, and I don’t, but they never force it on me. That’s how it is supposed to be,” she explained.
Urfi feels that forcing religion on someone only leads to unhappiness. “You cannot force your religion upon your wife and children. It should come from the heart, otherwise neither you nor Allah would be happy,” she said.
nterestingly, Urfi is currently reading the Bhagavad Gita. She’s drawn to its logical aspects and wants to learn more about Hinduism. “I hate extremism, so I just want to extract the good part of the holy book,” she shared.
