Stories of poverty, hardships, and struggle often touch our hearts. One such story is of a daily wage laborer and his son, who changed their fate with hard work and dedication. 23-year-old Kabilan V has become an officer in the Indian Army. His father used to work as a daily wage laborer, who used to get 100 rupees every day.
This news is of a small village in Tamil Nadu. 23-year-old Kabilan V’s father used to work as a daily wage laborer, who used to get 100 rupees every day. Kabilan has come out of poverty and has now reached a position, which has made his father proud.
Kabilan officially joined the Indian Army in the passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy held on Saturday. This moment was a proud moment not only for him but also for his family. According to media reports, about three years ago, Kabilan’s mother died of cancer. Kabilan says, ‘I failed many times, but I had to join the defense forces. So I worked hard and today I joined the Indian Army.
Furthermore, Kabilan says, “This is not only my success, but it is the success of all those who want to join the Indian Army.” If a person like me, the son of a daily wage laborer who earns Rs 100 per day, can do this, then anyone can do it.
Kabilan got his early education from a government school and after that, he got a degree in civil engineering from Anna University. He had applied many times to join the army, but every time he was unsuccessful. Despite this, he did not give up and today the result is in front of everyone. Along with his studies, Kabilan also started working as a waterboat supervisor under the voluntary rescue team Delta Squad under the National Disaster Response Force, i.e., NDRF, so that the family could run.
Kabilan’s mentor, retired Sub Lieutenant Sugal Esan, says, ‘He was part of our rescue team during the Chennai and Kanyakumari floods. Along with other volunteers, he saved the lives of about 200 people. The dual responsibilities of work and studies would have broken many people, but Kabilan remained firm. With his efforts and sacrifice, he finally fulfilled his dream of joining the Indian Army.’
