The food delivery sector has transformed drastically, driven by platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, and Uber Eats. These services have redefined convenience, making food accessible with just a few taps.
Yet, the industry’s meteoric rise also underscores the struggles faced by delivery agents, whose tireless efforts sustain this ecosystem.
Himanshu Bohra, a resident of Delhi, shared an emotional account of his interaction with Shiva Sarkar, a young Zomato delivery professional. Shiva, in his early twenties, has been working relentlessly to support his family after losing his father.
This inspiring yet heartbreaking encounter left Himanshu deeply moved, prompting him to pen his thoughts in a LinkedIn post titled, The Story of Shiva Sarkar.
Late one evening, Shiva delivered food to Himanshu’s house. Upon inviting him in for a drink of water and asking about his well-being, Himanshu learned about Shiva’s struggles. Shiva’s dedication to his family came at the cost of his education and personal aspirations.
Himanshu’s post did more than narrate Shiva’s story; it urged society and corporations like Zomato to take actionable steps. He appealed directly to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, requesting the introduction of scholarships and supportive programs for delivery personnel like Shiva.
Such initiatives, Himanshu believes, could help alleviate the burden on individuals who sacrifice their futures for their families’ survival.
Zomato’s Response:-
Zomato was quick to acknowledge the post, reflecting their commitment to their workforce. In a heartfelt reply, they expressed pride in their delivery agents and asked for the order ID to convey Himanshu’s appreciation directly to Shiva.
“Hey Himanshu, thanks for bringing this to our attention. This looks quite inspirational, and we are proud of our delivery universe. If possible, kindly help us with the order ID via a private message so that we can express your appreciation to our delivery partner,” Zomato replied.
