In a shocking incident, a Gurugram woman and her son faced a harrowing ordeal during what should have been a routine cab ride. The driver, associated with BluSmart, allegedly held them at gunpoint and robbed them, demanding INR 55,000 via UPI transfer. The distressing event took place on Friday during a ride from Airia Mall to Sector 86.

According to reports, as the cab neared Sector 83, the driver stopped abruptly, pointed a gun at the woman, and coerced her into transferring the money. He also stole her bag before ordering her and her son out of the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

The Gurugram police identified the accused as Sonu Singh, a tenant in the city hailing from Uttar Pradesh. He has been apprehended and is currently in custody. Authorities stated that the stolen money would be recovered following further interrogation.

BluSmart, the cab aggregator involved, expressed its dismay over the incident. The company emphasized that safety is its top priority and outlined the measures it takes to ensure rider security, including rigorous driver background checks, face-to-face interviews, driving tests, and facial recognition technology.

Despite these protocols, BluSmart acknowledged the need for “constant vigilance and improvement” and assured that immediate steps are being taken to strengthen safety procedures. The company also apologized to the affected family and pledged full support during this difficult time.

Founder’s Statement

Anmol Singh Jaggi, co-founder of BluSmart, conveyed his deep disturbance over the incident, stating that such an event feels “personal” after years of prioritizing safe mobility solutions.

In a post on X, Jaggi highlighted the company’s quick response, noting that its Quick Response Team (QRT) collaborated with authorities to ensure the accused was apprehended within 24 hours. He also reiterated the company’s commitment to enhancing driver training and reinforcing safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.

“Your safety is our priority. Always,” Jaggi assured riders.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for continual advancements in safety measures to protect passengers.
