Uttar Pradesh: Muslim youths change their surname to Pandey, Dubey, Shandilya etc

Recently, a shocking incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh, where some Muslim youth have started adding Hindu surnames like Pandey, Dubey, Shandilya, and Tripathi to their names. What could be the reason behind all Muslims using Hindu titles? Media reports on social media revealed the reason behind this.

In the viral video, the media talks to some Muslims of the village who use Hindu titles in their names. Usually, titles like Khan, Ansari, Sheikh, and Azmi are heard among Muslims. But when the conversation took place in the village, it was discovered that Naushad Bhai’s full name is Naushad Ahmed Dubey; people call Ashraf Ashraf Dubey, while Shiraz is called Shiraz Shukla.

During the conversation, Naushad said, ‘His ancestors used to say they were Brahmins. They had converted from Brahmins to become Muslims. Naushad says that then he set out to identify his roots. During this time, he came to know that 7 generations ago, his ancestor Lal Bahadur Dubey had converted to Islam and became Lal Mohammad Sheikh and Lalam Sheikh.

From childhood, he realized that the castes we write like Sheikh, Pathan, or Syed are not ours but borrowed. Then he started connecting with his roots. The elders of the house had told Naushad Dubey that his ancestors were Dubeys, who had come to live here in Jaunpur from Rani ki Sarai Azamgarh. So he already knew that earlier we were Brahmins. After this, he started adding Dubey to his name.

He is adding a Hindu title to his name because the Muslim people of this village are searching for the roots made by their ancestors, which is actually their title. And those whose roots are from Brahmins and Thakurs in Hinduism all add Hindu titles like Dubey, Pandey, and Shandilya to their names.

Naushad says that in Azamgarh, Jaunpur, and Mau combined, there are more than 100 people whose roots have been traced. They say that they are Dubey, Tiwari, Pandey, or Yadav, but some of them dare to change their Aadhaar. Not everyone can bear what they are facing.
