Man who loved his car performs last rites, buries with all rituals

In Gujarat, a farmer family gave ‘Last Rites’ to their lucky car in the Amreli district. Usually, old vehicles are sold or dumped in junkyards, but this farmer family decorated theirs with flowers and garlands and performed a Puja to honor it.

Farmer Sanjay Polra bought this car in 2006, and since then, it has been lucky for his family. Sanjay says that this car not only improved the family’s financial condition but also increased their respect in society.

The family felt that this car had brought positive changes in their life. Therefore, they decided to give it a special respect. The family first worshiped their gods and goddesses and then the car decorated with flowers was taken to the Samadhi Sthal located in their farm in the form of a procession. This unique sight was quite emotional.

In the presence of local saints and religious leaders, delicious food, including puri, chapati, vegetables, and laddu, was served to about 1,500 people of the village. For this unique event, Polra’s family sent a special invitation letter to 2,000 people. The letter read, “This car has become a family member and has been very lucky for us. We want to keep it in our memories forever, so we are respectfully burying it.”

Sanjay Polra said, “I bought this car in 2006 and since then it has proved lucky for us. We thought that it should be respected especially. So, we decided to bury it.” Polra has also decided that he will offer flowers at this samadhi site every year on November 7 and plant trees around it. Vipul Sojitra, a resident of the village, said, “When I heard that the car is being buried, I was a little surprised.” But now I understand that this family wanted to do something special for their lucky car.

It was an emotional ceremony filled with memories and emotions as a tribute to the car that had been with the family throughout their lives.
