Indian-origin engineer shared on LinkedIn his journey of how he landed a job at Elon Musk’s Tesla. Dhruv Loya sent out more than 300 applications, and over 500 emails and went through ten rounds of interviews over a period of five months before he finally got a job offer from his dream company. This story is not only inspiring but also teaches us that failures should never make us give up.
Loya, originally from Pune, wrote on LinkedIn, “Finally I got the job!” He added, “I am excited to share the end of a challenging journey and express my deep gratitude to all those who believed in me, supported me, and stood by me.”
However, the journey to get a job at a company like Tesla was not that easy. He faced many challenges and failed repeatedly. He kept trying and didn’t give up. In his journey, he applied nearly 300 times and sent more than 500 emails, many of which did not even receive a response.
Loya, now employed as a technical support specialist at Tesla, recalled the struggle of his five months spent in the US before landing a job: “Despite three internships, a good GPA, and active extracurricular activities, I never imagined I would be in a situation where I would be unemployed for five months. I lost my lease, and my health insurance and constantly felt the ticking clock of my visa status, knowing I could be forced to leave the US at any time.”
During that time, he stayed with friends, slept on air mattresses, and saved every dollar to stay in the US. “It was all worth it. I landed a full-time position as a technical support specialist at Tesla!” He cold-emailed with Hunter.io, found jobs on LinkedIn, Indeed, Handshake, and Jobright.ai, and refined his CV and cover letter with ChatGPT+.
In conclusion, he counsels job applicants to treat job applications like their 9-5 jobs, while using their evenings and weekends to relax and do things they enjoy… just keep expressing yourself, stay positive, and have faith that things will fall into place!”
