Amid decades of conflict between India and Pakistan, the recent visit of Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to Pakistan has given some positive signs. The main purpose of this visit was to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting. Still, some media houses in Pakistan described it as a new opportunity to improve relations with India.
Various representatives attended this Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, including the host and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. On this visit, both Pakistan and India refrained from directly attacking each other. According to Pakistani media, India has made it clear that whatever statement the Pakistani PM makes, India’s stand will be the same.
Pakistani media revealed that casual talks took place between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan at the dinner table at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting. In this conversation, they discussed improving relations between Pakistan and India. This was the first visit of an Indian foreign minister to Pakistan after about a decade.
Pakistani media said Shahbaz Sharif’s sitting arrangement was with S Jaishankar ji; informal talks took place between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan over the dinner table. It was claimed that their talk started with cricket. Pakistani media said, “Humara To Satyanash Ho Gaya Hai India Se Dushamani Karke (We have been destroyed by enmity with India).”
Further, if the trade starts again, the bus route starts again, and the students of South Asian University start coming and going, then this framework can be revived again. All the members of this Shanghai Cooperation Organization should cooperate.
Jaishankar thanked Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. After the conclusion of the one-day visit, he posted on the social media platform X and thanked them. He said, ‘I am leaving Islamabad. Thanks to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and the Government of Pakistan for the hospitality and courtesy.’
