In Rajasthan, a serious case has come to light where an 89-year-old woman was left in the hospital by her professor’s son, and then instead of coming back, he left from there. The doctors and staff of the hospital accepted her as their mother. Now they are taking care of her.
According to other sources, Fortis Hospital doctor Pankaj Anand is treating the elderly woman. He said that Rajasthan University professor Rahul Joshi had admitted his mother in a deluxe room on 4 September. When her health did not improve, she was admitted to ICU on 7 September. After keeping her in the ICU for four days, her health improved.
After shifting the woman to the ward, the hospital staff tried to contact her son, but he refused to come, citing that he was alone. Following this, the hospital administration visited his residence, where he began displaying erratic behavior, resembling that of a mental patient. Despite multiple requests from the hospital, he refused to visit his ailing mother. He said that the second son, Prof. Anurag Joshi is a professor in IGNOU in Delhi. When he was contacted, there was no response from him either.
According to Dr. Pankaj Anand, the woman was being served by hospital workers when no one arrived to take her away. Dr. Anand reported that he visits twice daily. The old lady is looked after by female security officers. No one visits the woman to enquire about her well-being, and there is no communication with her relatives. She is now helpless.
Nowadays, children grow up and start running away from the responsibilities of their old parents, they leave them helpless or leave them in Ashram. Earlier, the elderly were taken care of within the family. In joint families, every member was responsible for taking care of parents and grandparents. But as society is changing, family structures are breaking down, and the responsibility of taking care of the elderly is also being ignored many times.
