A recent incident at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has sparked a heated conversation online after a Delhi resident, Deepak Gosain, shared his shock over an unexpectedly high parking bill.
Gosain parked his vehicle at the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility of Terminal 3 on August 17, only to return nine days later, on August 26, to find a staggering bill of Rs 5,770.
Gosain’s parking fee totaled Rs 4,889.83, with an additional Rs 880.17 charged as GST, leaving him stunned. He took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his ordeal, highlighting the exorbitant nature of the charges.
“The parking fee is higher than a round-trip flight between Delhi and Lucknow, which can be as low as Rs 2,836,” he noted, comparing his bill to domestic flight fares.
The hefty parking charge wasn’t the only issue Gosain faced. Upon returning to his vehicle, he discovered that the car’s gate lock was broken, and there were multiple scratches on its surface.
Despite his attempts to address the damage with the parking facility’s staff, he was met with indifference. Gosain expressed his frustration, stating that the staff had already processed his payment and showed little interest in helping him resolve the issue.
The parking rates at IGI Airport’s Terminal 3 are structured to increase as the duration of the stay extends. The charges start at Rs 120 for the first 30 minutes and rise to Rs 170 for the next 30 minutes.
After the first hour, the rate is Rs 100 per hour for up to five hours. For vehicles parked longer than that, the airport charges a flat rate of Rs 600 for every 24-hour period. With Gosain’s vehicle parked for a total of nine days, the charges added up to the hefty sum.

The post quickly gained traction online, prompting a response from Delhi Airport’s official account on X. The airport authorities clarified their parking fee structure and encouraged travelers to review the charges on their website before parking for extended periods. While they acknowledged the situation, they did not comment on the damage to Gosain’s vehicle.
