Pakistani superhit film ‘Legends of Maula Jatt’ gained immense popularity, but was not permitted to be released in India. The film was earlier scheduled to release in India on October 2. This is related to the historical separation between the two nations.
Other sources claimed the decision was made in 2019 after Pakistan banned Indian films. The film ‘Legends of Maula Jatt’ was expected to be the first Pakistani release in India in over a decade. The Indian ministry has obtained a stay order from the court against the release, so its screening has now been stopped.
Nadeem Mandviwala, one of the top distributors, exhibitors, and cinema owners in Pakistan, said, Nobody can do anything until the court makes its final decision. Whenever the film is released in India, it will be a big step for the Pakistani industry.
He further added I am sure that given the quality and efforts put into the film’s production and its brilliant cast, Maula Jatt will be a big hit in Indian Punjab. Since its release was announced, some parties and politicians have expressed opposition to the film.
MNS cinema wing president Amey Khopkar said, “We will not entertain any Pakistani film or actor in India,” and called upon others across the country to join their protest. No release will be allowed for the film. If it does, there will be strong opposition.” He asked, “Our soldiers are dying. Why do we need Pakistani actors here? Don’t we have enough talent?”
The ban on Pakistani artists in India was first imposed in 2016 after the Uri terror attack. Despite legal challenges against the ban, the Supreme Court rejected a petition in November 2023 that aimed to lift the ban on Pakistani artists working in India. The Legend of Maula Jatt was originally scheduled to be released in 2022. It was earlier scheduled to be released in India in December 2022. However, its release has been postponed indefinitely.
